Our Living Room

A living room filled with furniture and a fire place

Welcome to our living room. It is one of my favorite places in our house, it is so cozy and has an amazing view!

I love all our built ins in this room. I worked with our cabinet maker designing them exactly how I wanted them.

I’m constantly changing and rearranging the bookshelves (any one else do this or am I the only one obsessed?)

Cottage and House shelves

I made the LAKE sign on this shelf, I found an old 5 panel door laying on the side of the road (love when that happens!) and ripped one of the panels off. I used a stencil to paint “Lake” on it, and added a little drop shadow.

Our mantel features a picture taken of the church we were married in, I love that photo!

We cheated a bit in this room and had carpet in-laid in to the floor to look like an area rug. This saved us major bucks on our hardwood floors, bonus we didn’t have to buy an expensive area rug either!

These chairs were my grandmother’s, I always LOVED them. When she passed I was so glad to take them home with me as a reminder of her. I just spruced them up a bit, I spray painted them gray and reupholstered them with some light blue ticking to make them a bit more cottagey. They just make me happy to look at and bring back great memories of my grandma.

Our kitchen over looks our living room, which is nice since we are always gathered in the kitchen anyways.

So that is our living room, hope you enjoyed the tour!

  1. Hmm is anyone else experiencing problems with the pictures on this blog loading?
I’m trying to find out if its a problem on my end or if it’s the
blog. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  2. I just found your website on Pinterest! Love your style! I was curious as to where you purchased your hanging lights in your entry way and above your dining room table. Thanks!

  3. Beautiful job! (I know it’s years later!) Any information on the rug under your dining table? Those are the perfect colors for my family room renovation and I have been SEARCHING for something just like that. Would appreciate all info you have about it!

  4. HI Kelly,
I found your website via Elle Claire – Lucky Me – You have a BEAUTIFUL sense of style and fun!
I was searching all over your blog site….do you ever share, in one post, all your house colors? Color and Paint seem to be the quandary everyone stumbles upon. I know it looks different in different light….but would you share??

Also – I have asked this on so many blogs and never get a response. When I type in a question on a blog, do I need to return to that entry or will the response go to my “in” box? No one seems to answer?

    Thanks, Megan

    1. Hi Megan! So glad you found me, love Kristen! Here is my paint color post http://www.thelilypadcottage.com/2014/01/paint-colors.html although I have repainted a few things since then, ha. I’ll have to update it soon. As far as blog comments – it’s set up a little different for everybody. On my blog when you comment and I reply it shows up on the blog and sends a response to your email. Hope that clears it up :) you can always email me too if you have more questions. Nice to “meet” you :)

  6. Hello. I love the family room and wanted to know where I can get the white stacking end tables? They would be great for a new room I am completing.

  7. Omg Omg Omg I love your site. I am a die hard New Orleans Saints fan and the play off game just came on, but I can’t take my eyes off of this computer because your ideas are amazing. How big is the chalk board that you decorate for the seasons? I love your house!!!!

  8. Hey Kelly
I am a new subscriber, and I just took a tour of your house. Lovely! Just wanted to ask what year your world books are? They look alot like mine from 1923, where there was no such thing as “airplanes”, but there were “flying machines” ! I love looking at your decorating syle, since I live on the water as well in Prince Edward Island, Canada. We are starting doing renovations, so I appreciated the inspirations from your home. Thank you! Hope you and your family have a very merry Christmas- Pamela

  11. Hi Kelly,
I am absolutely loving your blog and decorating style! It has been such an inspiration for me as I’m in the beginning stages of remodeling a newly bought old restored farmhouse. It has so much potential and I love your colors and style! Speaking of that, what color blue paint did you use in your living room? Is it a chalk, milk, or just regular garden variety paint? Also, love your handmade signs! Where do you get your stencils?

    Thank you so much!

  12. I absolutely ADORE your home, it’s simply beautiful. I would like to know the color in your living room — I’m trying to pop blue into my living space, and this is the perfect shade (I love how it is more of a light blue w/ the neutrals & whites throughout, but when the sun is on it, it’s more of a robin eggish color). Thanks!

  13. Hi Kelly,

Your living room is lovely! I have a nearly identical pair of cane chairs from my grandmother! I love them but they definitely at least need to be reupholstered and I’m debating painting them as well. Where did you find the ticking fabric you used on yours and what brand/color of spray paint did you use? I love how yours turned out, but I’ve never found a gray spray paint that I loved. Thanks!

  14. LOVE your house!!!!!! Can you tell me where you got your coffee table? And also, is there somewhere on your website that explains how exactly you painted your front hall table that you bought at Homegoods? I LOVE the blue and white colors!!!

    1. I would also love to know where you got your coffee table and how it is holding up! You have such wonderful taste.

      1. Hey Crystal I got our ottoman at a clearance sale at a local furniture store 3 years ago. It’s managed to survive my kids so far :)

Love yout cottage style!
