More Before and After Fun – Formal Living Room Decor

Hey I’m back at my in-laws home today, as promised! Let’s take the show and tell on to the formal living room! Let’s start with the before…

A living room filled with furniture and a fire place

This room had the same teal color scheme to go with the teal wallpaper in the formal dining room. We again toned it down a notch, (or two) with this pretty beige paint (Manchester Tan).

It’s crazy how you hardly noticed the gorgeous windows before…

and now they just pop.

Formal Living Room Makeover

We added these pretty and more casual arm chairs to make things less formal.

This is now where the “lucky audience” (grandpa and grandma) get to sit while their adorable grandchildren pound away on Great Grandpa’s piano…hopefully one of them picks up on Grandpa’s musical skills…

let’s just say they aren’t quite there yet!

I love the way this blue table brings out the subtle colors in the fabric of the chairs.

Living Room Update

This pretty painting my mother in law found adds another bright spot of color to the room.

The entry way got a little makeover too, yeah, no corner was left untouched. I’m pretty sure my father in law will be happy to never hang another new picture or see a new fabric sample again :)

he definitely has the same enthusiasm for all my projects as the Mr. does, apparently the apple doesn’t fall far…

and the After

A room filled with furniture on top of a wooden chair

In here there weren’t too many changes beyond getting rid of the sponge painting technique we all remember so well from the 90’s. We also added some extra chairs from the dining room in here in a fun fabric and I love this coral pillow my mother in law found.

A dining room table

My mother in law did a fabulous job of neutralizing her house while still having fun with color and I had so much fun being along for the ride….

deep down I think my father in law had fun too…way deep down ;)

I still have a few more rooms to show you, but nap time and the afternoon sun ran out when I was at their house last week. Hopefully I will make it out there again soon, so you can see the rest of the before and afters!

  1. Oh my goodness, oh my goodness, oh my goodness. First of all, both rooms now look SO inviting. But secondly, I just got dorky-giddy because I JUST posted a makeover for what I am pretty sure is the EXACT same green table that’s in your in-laws’ entry! I loved the green color, but it didn’t work with our living room scheme, so it’s now ASCP French Linen (so soothing). Your blog was one of my earliest introductions to Chalk Paint, and I finally bought a couple of cans. It’s so easy to use, I’m afraid it’s becoming an addiction. :)

  2. So fresh & beautiful! Very nicely done. Can you say where the coral pillows with the white stitched flowers are from?

  3. Such amazing changes Kelly. It is amazing how those windows pop now. What a difference and I love what was done in the entry. Those chairs are so pretty. I’m sure they love it and appreciate everything you have done.

  4. What a beautiful home. I love the pops of color now. Love the new chairs and pillows! How fun for you to get to work on such a great project with your family. And yes, those are beautiful windows.

  5. Wow it is all so gorgeous. It is amazing what a lighter color on the walls can do to these areas. Beautiful job. Love those chairs in the living room.
