Pet Proof Carpet

This post is sponsored by The Home Depot.

Lately I’ve been sharing lots of design decisions for the new house, and today I’m talking carpet! We aren’t quite at the carpet installation phase over at the new house (soon!), but I received our gorgeous carpet already and couldn’t resist unrolling it and taking it for a test drive. It actually looks pretty great here at my parent’s house, where we are temporarily living, but don’t get any ideas mom!

Let me back up a bit and talk about carpet. If you have been following along on the blog for a while you may remember our puppy Charlie.

He is a year old now and doesn’t seem to be slowing down on the puppy phase anytime soon. So, finding something durable and Charlie proof was high on my list. When I found out all the benefits of the LifeProof carpet line at Home Depot, I was hooked –  especially now that it’s been specifically designed to be “pet proof”. It has 0% moisture absorption, which cuts down on pet odor; NanolocTM spill and soil shield for easy cleanup; and it’s 3X easier to clean dirt and dander. Just what we need with 2 busy kids and a crazy dog.

This carpet will eventually be installed in a room in our basement AKA kid zone. Where there are kids, there are snacks. And where there are snacks, there is also Charlie. Stains, dirt and who knows what else will definitely be happening down here and I’m glad that this carpet is up to the challenge. With all the stain resistant benefits it’s also incredibly soft and so pretty.

We went with the Scarlet 0641D cut and loop pattern in the color Deserted Castle. The LifeProof carpet comes in tons of patterns and colors – it was hard to decide. Home Depot has a great display with samples you can take home, which was really helpful. We loved the subtle pattern and texture in this carpet. The warm grey tone is going to work great with the neutral tones in our home.

I laid it out in my mom’s living room and our kids are begging me to keep it here until we move, because they have been playing on it nonstop. It’s Charlie’s new favorite spot to hang out in too!

I’m so excited to see it installed at the new house, just a few more weeks and I’ll be able to share the real thing!

PS – They installed the countertops today, so look for a kitchen update this week yet!

  1. How has it held up? The reviews on their website are less than stellar for longevity :( I was excited that this may work for us but the reviews have made me nervous.

  2. I didn’t know such a thing existed! We are thinking about getting a dog and replacing our carpets. Hmmm…
I love the color of your parents cream/yellowish walls! Do you know the brand and name of it? I’m wanting to paint our kitchen a creamy color.

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Christine, the wall color is a custom mix she had lightened by 50% so I don’t have a name for you. This carpet would be a great choice to look at with a new dog on the way!

  3. I really like this carpet and am wondering how it would hold up to dog throw up and the other end, if you get my drift? I like the ease of being able to vacuum my floors. And, the quiet feature as well. Can you furnish a link to the carpet, by chance?

  4. What kind of dog is Charlie? He looks like my Farley, who is a Coton. He is almost 4 yrs. old but, from time to time, still marks on furniture and carpet. Sounds like I should look into this carpet!

    1. Hi Deb, Charlie is a Havanese. We actually used to have a Coton though! I think this carpet would be great for easy clean up with the marking issues.

  5. We are going to have to go something with our upstairs hallway- this carpet would be perfect! Love the look of it and the pet proof would be great. Definitely going to check this out!

  6. Happy to see some carpet. The open floor plan in our home makes for a noisy environment even with the bedrooms and family room carpeted. I can’t imagine ever being able to go completely carpetless. I know area rugs are an option but, to me, what a hassle for the same basic effect.

    1. Hey Margot, carpet is definitely great when noise is a factor. Plus with little kids playing on the floor it’s nice to have a soft cozy spot!

  7. A plus for all the furniture moving you had to do for this post. I’m thinking your Mom might tell you to go acquire another piece, for your house.

    1. Ha yes! It was fun to do a little styling session in my mom’s house, has me itching to start decorating at the new one!
