House Update – Paint and Kitchen Countertops

SO much has been going on at the house this week, I don’t even know where to start! So, I’m just gonna throw it all at you randomly.

First up, the paint is almost done and I’m loving the colors (you can see them all here). This is the mudroom blue:

A door in a room

and our master bath and bedroom grayish, greenish, blueish color (so dark in this photo, but gorgeous in person!)

Oh and our master bath! I haven’t shown the cabinets painted in here, they are the same deep blue as our kitchen island. And yes, the countertops are in too!

Speaking of countertops, the kitchen counters also got installed and I love them! They are quartz – the color is Mysterio I think? But I can’t remember the brand at the moment… I will find out and tell you when I share the final reveal pics

Kitchen countertops

I talked about my kitchen plans changing a little bit last week – it’s not a huge change, but I nixed all the butcher block counters. I’m pretty bummed about it.

Kitchen under construction

We could not find a wood that looked good with our wood floors. The guys didn’t want to stain it, because it wouldn’t be food safe without using a sealer that would make the finish glossy. Everything was either too yellow or orange and rather than having the woods clash, I decided to do away with the idea even though I love the look. So the island will be the same quartz and the pantry will get a soapstone looking laminate.

Wet bar blue cabinets

The basement wet bar got the same laminate and it looks really nice, plus I don’t need to worry about my kids ruining it like I would have if we went with the butcher block. It is super dusty down here, but I’m excited to style those shelves. The brick patterned square tile is a fun touch and bonus these tiles are even cheaper than subway tile. Also sneak peek of our wood flooring, I can’t even with these floors; I love them SO much! You can check out my post on them here, but I will be sharing more reveal posts on them soon!

Back upstairs, they finished the ceilings, and I could lay on the floor and stare at them all day.

OH, and they also started the fireplace stone. It looks really dark in these photos becuase its raining out, but they are going to get a light grout which will lighten it all up a lot.

Last thing, the kids flooring is in! You may remember it from our old sunroom, I loved this flooring so much I had to go for it again. They are laminate, but they look so real. I love the white and grey tones with the pale blue walls in my daughter’s room.

A room with a wooden floor

Ok, I think that’s all I have to report at the moment. The driveway and patio are done too, but it is pouring outside, so I’ll have to share outdoor shots later. They are laying the rest of the flooring this week and the electrician is coming next week to hang light fixtures! Gah, we are like this close!

  1. Oh my goodness. Just gorgeous. I know you probably already shared this somewhere in a blog post, but I have a question about that beautiful ceiling of yours. Are the beams just for looks or are they actually structural. They MAKE the room!!! Can’t WAIT for the big reveal! Blessings from Missouri!

  2. Love it! I espcially like the trim around the windows. Is there anyway that you can show the Trim around the windows in your Great room? My screen is really bright and i cant see it. Very interested in that detail! Thank you Kelly!

    1. HI Dixie, I definitely will once I can get my nice camera in there. These are just phone photos because there is so much sawdust in there I don’t dare take my lenses in there yet! Once we are moved in I will capture it all better :)

  3. Your home is absolutely gorgeous!!! I love the color choices! We are currently building a house and I picked Blustery Sky for the exterior color. All the trim will be SW Eider White and we’ll also have quite a bit of brick on the foundation, porch, and porch columns. The color looks beautiful on your kitchen island, but do you think it’s too much for the exterior?

I can’t wait to see more updates on your home… thanks for sharing!!!

    1. Hi Blythe, oh wow that color combo sounds beautiful! It’s definitely a pretty blue, more blue than gray. If that’s what you are going for then I would go for it :)

  4. You have done an amazing job!! Everything looks beautiful! Sooo much work and planning goes into a project like this-give yourself a big pat on the back!!

    1. Thanks Barbara I will definitely be celebrating when we move in, so many decisions! It’s gratifying to see it all coming together.

  5. So Pretty!!! Would love to know the process of the ceiling. Was it drywalled first, then the boards placed? We’re in the planing stages of a small getaway cabin here in Florida and love the look of that. ?

    1. Hi Susan, it was drywalled first and then the shiplap type boards were added, then the beams and lastly the cross x things.

  6. Wow…. with the floors going in, the driveway is in, the lights are being installed. You are absolutely close to the end. It’s all so gorgeous…

  9. Ohhhhh sooo pretty! Love, love and love some more. What is the color/brand of the mudroom and MBR. They look just beautiful!

    Thank you,

    Ali

  10. Do you know what size the wall cupboards are on each side of your vent hood? Are they going to have two doors or one? We are remodeling our kitchen and I have windows on each side of my vent hood and then 18″ cupboards on the side. Not sure that is big enough for plates and bowls.
    Thank you

  11. What is the name and brand of laminate you used by the blue cabinets? Thanks and I’m totally in love with your house

  12. Jump, jump, jump…jump around. This is great progress, Kelly. How do you contain your excitement? Thank you again for sharing it all with us. It’s a lovely, lovely home. Cheers, Ardith

  13. That ceiling is AMAZING! And dying to know that countertop brand too. Thinking of switching to quartz in my kitchen.

  14. I noticed you didn’t do a farmhouse sink. I’m about to start building and have read mixed reviews on them. How did you decide?

    1. Hi Katrina, I wanted the house to feel cottagey and not like a farmhouse so I didn’t go that direction with the sink. I also have heard they are kind of a pain to maintain so that sealed the deal for me.

  15. Wow, everything is so beautiful. That ceiling is gorgeous! I also love the blue cabinets and quartz countertops. Looking forward to seeing your light fixtures too.

  16. I love everything about this!! So beautiful….and it seems to be moving fast. You have a good builder! That ceiling is to die for!

  17. I don’t usually leave comments, but I love how this is turning out. What is the name of the laminate in your wet bar area? It’s very close to a Pergo I had picked out, but just got discontinued. Also, I don’t know if this will help but JennanSue of JennaSueblog in the “Cottage house flip” ran into the same problem with her butcher block counters. I don’t recall the fix but she mentioned her contractor came up with a plan that would keep the counters food safe.

    1. Hi Lena, I’m still working on finding out the exact laminate info. I love JennaSue but I didn’t see her solution to the butcher block, now I’m afraid to look because it’s too late for me to switch ha ;)

  18. Pompeii, mysterio, I just had this installed in my remodel in Florida. I love it so much! Looks great in your new home. I can’t wait to see what you chose for a backsplash. Love all your blue paint colors epecially the one in your daughters room. I can’t get over how fast things are moving with your build. So many decisions in such a short time. It’s all lovely!

  19. The ceiling is amazing! The woodwork, colors and windows are perfect! Can’t wait to see it finished.

  20. Absolutely wonderful! Your choices are beautiful and I look forward to seeing the finished home.
