I love old crates and am always on the hunt for them but for this project I broke down and bought new ones. We have a long awkward hallway upstairs that I wanted to knockdown/paint/panel/bedazzle SOMETHING to make it more interesting. So I picked up some crates from the local craft store, stained and stacked them.
I would like to say that I screwed them all together or at least used liquid nails but the truth is they are all precariously stacked there just waiting for a clever toddler to climb them! In actuality they are pretty sturdy and have survived 6 months of my 4 year old running back and forth near them but the liquid nails is on the ever growing to do list!
This project could not be easier!
What a great idea! I love the way these look rustic and polished at the same time!
Fabulous idea! I love it! I am going to “TRY” to talk my friend into doing this in her home. She has toddlers too so that just may be my selling point :)
Love the crates! I might do a similar project for my home office.
Where did you purchase the crates? Do you remember the price?
I bought mine at Walmart in ?? Tho … they were 9.95 each Canadian … Home Depot I’m sure has them too
Hi! Do you remember the stain you used? Did you finish them with a varathane?
They look awesome!
Hey Melanie, oh man this project was about 3 years ago! No idea the stain but I didn’t use a varathane afterward just left them rustic!
I used a spray varathane (sp) one coat coverage but you can do more depending on the look you want of course … I have also done some of my crates using chalk paint ! … they look great … I stained them first with a grey colour then gave them a rough sand and dry brushed with a grey blue chalk paint .. instead of a varathane I used the clear wax … it’s a bit pricey but wow! … with chalk paint the wax is a must .. There are so many options with these little crates .. I’m having a blast
I’m loving this, and will be featuring it in an upcoming crate post. Such a classic look, and easy diy. This was just too great not to share. Thanks.
