Holly Wreath Cookies

I love making Christmas Cookies, and ever since I was a little girl these were the ones I looked forward to making the most – they are so fun!

Holly Wreath Cookies

My favorite part of making these cookies is using my grandma’s vintage Mirro cookie press (although it wasn’t “vintage” to her, she bought it new back in the day :) )

Isn’t it awesome? I get excited every time I get the box out.

The recipe booklet is so fun (not to mention Good Housekeeping Guaranteed!).

I must say I do “enjoy many compliments on these clever cookies”. :)

Alright, ready to be your very own “fancy cooky artist”?

Make your batter.

A bowl of dough with Cookie press

Fill cookie press (or pastry bag)

A spoon in it

Make small wreaths on an ungreased cookie sheet.

A cookie press

(Speaking of vintage, check out my cookie sheet. Yikes, the poor thing gets a lot of use!)

Decorate with green sprinkles and cinnamon candies.

Bake and enjoy!

My grandma always had us double the recipe, because we split them all up, so I’ll do the same here. These make great little gifts to hand out (or just eat them all yourself…like I did).

RECIPE

1 C softened butter                               Green sprinkles
3 oz cream cheese                                Cinnamon red candies (find them by the sprinkles)
1/2 C sugar
1 tsp vanilla
2 C sifted flour

Cream butter and cream cheese in a bowl until well mixed, add in the sugar and vanilla. Mix well. Slowly add in the sifted flour. Fill your cookie press up half way (a star tip pastry bag thingy would work too) and make small circles on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with green sprinkles and lightly press 2 Cinnamon candies on the cookie.

Bake at 375 for 8 – 10 minutes.

My grandma, mom, and I made Christmas cookies every year together. Since my grandma passed, this is our first year on our own, but it brings back great memories of all our time in the kitchen together.

Up next we are going to tackle her Banket (delicious dutch pastry goodness if you’ve never had it!)

 I’ll share that next week…unless it’s a total disaster :)

First up: buy the cookie press…
And a question answered, please: what is the measurement of 3 oz. of cream cheese? Close to 2/3 of a cup?
I’ve always loved to bake but math? not so much!!

    Thank you <];0)]]]]]

    1. Oh boy math is not my strong suit either, but there are 8 oz in a cup but they actually sell cream cheese in little 3 oz bricks that you can use.
