Lake House Spring Decor

The weather is finally warming up here in Michigan and it’s giving me the itch to spring clean. And by spring clean of course, I mean attempt to dust my bookshelves, but in reality use this as an excuse to rearrange everything. And if I rearrange the bookshelves, I probably need to rearrange whats hanging on the walls, so out came the hammer and nails!

When I was done with my cleaning rearranging, I looked around and everything seemed pretty and springy, albeit dusty, so I did the only sensible thing and recruited my kids to vacuum and dust with the promise of ice cream. Because I fully believe in bribery when it comes to dusting :)

I thought I would share a few shots of what my house is looking like these days after my rearranging madness. I also tried to include some wider shots so you can get a better feel for the floor plan of our house. I sometimes get questions regarding our layout, which is just really hard to shoot with my limited photography skills. Hopefully this gives you a better idea.

My DIY mirror found it’s way back to the mantel because I got this gorgeous new print from Melissa Lyons. I “met” Melissa on instagram in the best way! Remember this gorgeous pillow I shared from my mom’s house? She bought it at a local home decor shop and I shared it on instagram. Turns out Melissa followed me on Instagram and was so excited to see that her pillow had made it’s way to my mom. Once I checked out her gorgeous feed, I fell in love with the rest of her artwork and knew I needed to have a print for myself.

Isn’t it gorgeous? You can check out the rest of her shop here.

I also hit up HomeGoods in search of a picture frame and couldn’t leave without these striped pillows, because when have I ever been able to leave a striped pillow behind? Add pillow hoarding and dusting avoidance to my  growing list of faults that I refuse to apologize for…

Now that I have the new stair runner, I toned down the pillows in my entry way (I pulled these out of my pillow closet, tell me you have a pillow closet?) because there was a lot happening with the bold striping on the stairs.

I think that’s it… or at least, that’s all I got at the moment. I know I have been MIA for the last few weeks, (mainly due to the fact that I’ve been binge watching the Mindy Project and chasing my kids all over the neighborhood), but I’ve also been power shopping with my mom for a super fun out of state project that I can’t wait to share with you all. Be on the lookout next month for some awesome makeovers, if you like before and afters, you are going to love what’s coming up!

  5. Love your home and the way you decorate!!! Can you tell me what size your rugs are? The two on top of each other? I love that!!!

    1. Hi Emmy, the one is actually carpet inlaid in our hardwood. The jute rug is 8 x 10 and the carpet space is a little bigger than that.

  6. HI…..Just curious why there haven’t been but a few posts this year? I checked your past year posts and this particular year is really sparse. Are you phasing out on blogging?

    1. Hi Kristen, just having a crazy busy year with kids, life, etc…I do have a few fun makeover posts coming up but having my little guy at home with me still but not napping has just not allowed as much time for blogging as it has in the past. Maybe when the kids are both in school full time I’ll be able to to post regularly again :)

  7. I have to say that I love reading blogs but never comment. But I just had to tell you how much I always love your home!!! Your style just resonates with me. It totally works in my house too. You have helped me find my style!!!!

  11. I love your house. Looks so pretty! Just wondering if you would mind sharing the sources for your two rugs that you layered in your living area? I would appreciate it so much. I have been looking for quite a while for two rugs to use like that. There are so many out there to choose from and it is hard to decide which ones to choose from. Thanks so much!

  12. Read your post this morning and enjoyed it immensely. Finally after dealing with kids and dogs I can sit down and comment on it. WHEW! I live in northern Indiana and see no reason not to have coastal decor. After all THE lake is only 45 minutes away. (My favorite place to be in the summer) Would love to see more of your summer decor. I am a neutral kind of girl with a little color to keep it from being too boring and of course pillows play a big part in that. Quite the stash in my basement. Haha. Thanks for the Great photos and ideas.

  13. Hi Kelly,

Your house looks wonderful. I love how you express real life situations. I too go to Homegoods instead of cleaning my house. When my hubby gets home, he wants to know what I’ve accomplished. And then I bring out my shopping bags. I don’t think that’s what he means, but at least I’m being honest. Glad I’m not the only one.

  14. Love the red in the boat!! Looks so great next to your buffet!! Just loving that stair runner too!! Looking forward to your out of state project!! Have a great weekend..

  15. Oh Kelly! I just love your home!! I love the way you decorate! Your home is so light, clean and airy. I am in the process of going from dark rustic/western decor to light and airy farmhouse. Your home is so inspiring. Thx so much for sharing! If you’re ever in Arizona and have the desire to decorate, stop by. You can have your way with my home. ? Blessings to you!

  16. Love your house but didn’t you just remodel?? I so admire your gumption. I haven’t remodeled in oh about 12 years. I know — it is time but I just don’t know what to do first. So what do I do?? I just bury my head in the sand or under a pillow. I think I need to start with purging — then paint. Yep!! I can’t wait to see what you’re doing. Hope your spring continues to stay warm.
