Friday Feels – Easy Holiday Sign

Welcome to another Friday Feels where I share what I’m “feeling” this week. This post may contain affiliate links.

Hey guys, thanks for all the love on my holiday home tour this week! It was so fun to deck the halls this year, I thought I would share with you a few more pics of this easy DIY sign.

A Christmas sign and wreath

It’s actually my “Merry Christmas” sign from 2 years ago (see it here) and I just painted over the red lettering. Then I found this cute wood cut out at JoAnn Fabric. It was originally gold and felt a little too glitzy for my space this year so I gave it a coat of black spray paint and used a 3m strip to hang it on the wood.

A Christmas sign

Such a simple way to change out your decor for the season. The wood part of the sign is just five 6-inch boards screwed together with two vertical 1×2’s on the back. You could hang all kinds of different things/signs on here for the different seasons.

Blue and gold gift wrapped gifts

While I have you here, I thought I would share a few more fun gift ideas with you. I’m not going to do a full on gift guide, because I’m just not that organized this year, but I thought I would share a couple of things I’ve bought for my kids and family so far.

For the book lover in your life (mom stop reading here…) get a subscription to the Book of the Month Club! This is such a fun idea, every month you get an email with a selection of 5 carefully picked books to choose from and you pick one that interests you. They then send it to you in the mail. If you don’t like the book selection for the month, you can just skip that month and try the next month, but they are really selective with the books and all the choices are usually great. I like that this is a gift that keeps giving and you can choose 3 months, 6 months or a year subscription to give based on your budget. This is a great gift for that hard to buy person. (This is not sponsored I just really love this idea).

For my 9 year old daughter these science kits are so fun looking and the reviews are great. I like that they explain the science behind all of the experiments. They have several different kinds, but I got the Soap Making Kit (Ages 8+)

and the FIZZ! Chemistry Science Kit with 32 Experiments (Ages 8+) for my daughter.

She also has this putty Phantoms ARCTIC FLARE Glow in Dark UV Crazy Aaron Thinking PUTTY Fidget Desk Toy that is glow in the dark and you can write on, it’s so cool I find myself playing with it sometimes.

Thought Putty

I feel like 9 is such a hard age to buy for because they are sort of over toys and just want electronic time, but I think boys or girls would love this stuff.

My 6 year old son is lego obsessed, but I wanted to get him a few different building type activities besides just legos, so I found these kinex set that also incorporates STEM learning. K’NEX Education ‒ STEM Explorations: Swing Ride Building Set ‒ 486 Pieces ‒ Ages 8+ Engineering Education Toy

He has loved Kinex since he was little so if you are buying for younger kids this is a great set to start with – KID K’NEX – Build A Bunch Set – 66 Pieces – For Ages 3+ Construction  Educational Toy

For our family, I bought this board game for “Forced Family Fun” night ;) our kids seem to quickly lose patience with board games where they have to sit for a long time, so I thought this kids charades game would be fun to get the wiggles out. Charades for Kids

Oh and if you really want a super romantic gift from your husband, this is what the Mr. bought me for Christmas, not having to vacuum does actually warm my heart ;)

I’m still finishing up my Christmas shopping but this is what I have done so far – happy weekend!

  1. Your home looks lovely, great sign conversion and welcome children’s gift suggestions. However, when it gets to the vacuum, have you consulted the Dog? You may not want to leave the vacuum on and in motion when you are gone and the dog is home alone…… I have a friend who did just that and the dog was scared to death tearing up the house and a few accidents along the way.

    1. My parent’s had one when we were staying there so he is actually used to having one roam around, he just hangs out on the couch and watches it :)

  2. I am so going to make that sign …. if I can get to JoAnne’s before they sell out of the words. What a great idea! And, I love that it looks like shiplap! (Would it be possible to show a photo of the back side of the sign?) Your blue and white decor is beautiful! (I think I said that in earlier comments.) I am not sure I can abandon the red and green next year but I am certainly going to think about it! (I have rolls and rolls of navy ribbon from my son’s recent rehearsal dinner.) You have the perfect touch in decorating…not just with the Christmas decorations!!!! When I was a child my parents bought me “book of the month”. OMGoodness! I loved getting those books! And, you are right!!! A vacuum is a great gift if it makes your life easier!

  3. Oh my goodness, Kelly, your holiday decor is so beautifully curated! Thank you, thank you for sharing all the details about your lovely home. Now I’m going to make a sign for my foyer. :-)
