Dining room turned coastal office

Hey guys, I’m so glad you all loved the exterior makeover of my parent’s Florida home last week. I had lots of questions and comments wanting to know when you can see the inside! Today is the day! Well, for their little coastal office anyway.

A living room with a wooden floor

I reaaaaaally wanted to show you the kitchen, but I’m struggling with the fact that the photos are not great, because I didn’t have my tripod. So, I think I might keep you all waiting until I visit in February for those.

I did manage some okay-ish shots of the old formal dining room. My parent’s decided not to use this room for dining, because they have a large eating area off the kitchen. We thought this would make more sense as a little office/sitting room for my mom to knit and read in.

Here’s a Before –

A dining room table

and After –

An office with a desk and mirror

We took our cue from the front door and shutter paint color on the outside of the house and continued it in here.

A front door of a beach house

We actually painted the inside of the front door blue too, which is such a fun touch inside. The office is just to the left of the front door so it flows nicely to use the same color again.

A large front door with windows

This room can also do double duty as an extra sleeping space, because we found this cute little sleeper sofa at a local store to put in here. I say “cute and little” now, but when my dad and I were hefting it up a flight of stairs it didn’t feel so cute. Also my Friend’s reference of shouting “PIVOT, PIVOT!” in my best Ross voice, was completely lost on my dad. Oh well, it was worth it, because it’s such a cozy space and now the house can officially sleep 8 people.

A living room with hard wood floors

We decided on these light weight poufs in lieu of a coffee table, so that when they want to pull out the bed they can easily be tossed in a corner.

An office with desk and mirror

This is a small room and this sweet vintage wicker desk fits in here perfectly.

Sunburst mirror

Sneak peek alert of the kitchen below, GAH it turned out so amazing. I can’t wait to show you!

A living room

We swapped out the formal light for this fun beachy rope fixture and added this framed map art above the couch.

A sofa in an office

I also should mention they ended up having the original oak floors refinished, it’s a long story, but a pest control company ruined the finish on them and they buckled in several spots. It was kind of a happy accident, because the old floors had yellowed so much over the past 20 years, and now they have a new clear coat on them and they look fresh and beautiful!
