Dining room turned coastal office
Hey guys, I’m so glad you all loved the exterior makeover of my parent’s Florida home last week. I had lots of questions and comments wanting to know when you can see the inside! Today is the day! Well, for their little coastal office anyway.
I reaaaaaally wanted to show you the kitchen, but I’m struggling with the fact that the photos are not great, because I didn’t have my tripod. So, I think I might keep you all waiting until I visit in February for those.
I did manage some okay-ish shots of the old formal dining room. My parent’s decided not to use this room for dining, because they have a large eating area off the kitchen. We thought this would make more sense as a little office/sitting room for my mom to knit and read in.
Here’s a Before –
and After –
We took our cue from the front door and shutter paint color on the outside of the house and continued it in here.
We actually painted the inside of the front door blue too, which is such a fun touch inside. The office is just to the left of the front door so it flows nicely to use the same color again.
This room can also do double duty as an extra sleeping space, because we found this cute little sleeper sofa at a local store to put in here. I say “cute and little” now, but when my dad and I were hefting it up a flight of stairs it didn’t feel so cute. Also my Friend’s reference of shouting “PIVOT, PIVOT!” in my best Ross voice, was completely lost on my dad. Oh well, it was worth it, because it’s such a cozy space and now the house can officially sleep 8 people.
We decided on these light weight poufs in lieu of a coffee table, so that when they want to pull out the bed they can easily be tossed in a corner.
This is a small room and this sweet vintage wicker desk fits in here perfectly.
Sneak peek alert of the kitchen below, GAH it turned out so amazing. I can’t wait to show you!
We swapped out the formal light for this fun beachy rope fixture and added this framed map art above the couch.
I also should mention they ended up having the original oak floors refinished, it’s a long story, but a pest control company ruined the finish on them and they buckled in several spots. It was kind of a happy accident, because the old floors had yellowed so much over the past 20 years, and now they have a new clear coat on them and they look fresh and beautiful!

What is the color on the outside of the front door?
My husband and I always say Pivot in our best Ross voice when we are moving furniture! Love your site and your beautiful home.
haha yes! Someone gets it!! Thanks!
Beautiful, serene room! In a previous home, we painted the master bedroom in Wythe blue. I loved the way the changing light throughout the day changed the intensity of the color. One of my perennial favorites!
Yes it is such a beautiful color and the front door even reads a different color than it does in the office!
Amazing and adorable
Thanks Norma!
Love it all!
The pillows on the couch are really cute.
Thanks Tanya, it’s fun to play with the coastal vibe!
Love your parents’ coastal office. I’m under the weather today & you really brightened my day.
Oh thanks Brenda, I hope you feel better soon! My little guy is home from school today too, lots of nasty stuff going around.
Love the colors and how peaceful this room looks! Great job, Kelee!
Thanks!!
Hi, this room looks much better as a sitting room. The ceiling is gorgeous and the light is perfect. Can’t wait for more reveals.
Hi Sue, yes I agree it made such an awkward formal dining area before, it’s really cozy now.
Lovely room! Your mom must be so pleased. I agree with Christina’s comment… a tray on one of the poufs would be perfect. I love all the texture added by the gorgeous pillows and I LOVE seeing you in the mirror. :)
That is a great idea! I’m sure we will keep working on this room as we go, I just realized the price tag is still on the pouf that’s how down to the wire I was to snap some shots before my plane home lol.
everything is looking so amazing…so bright…so coastal. are your parents going to rent it out?
Hey Laura, they don’t have plans to at the moment. They have pretty much decided to live there September thru May which has been an adjustment for the grand kids but they are looking forward to visiting next month!
Looks great! She needs a tray on her pouf to hold her tea when she reads and knits! Ha ha
Great idea!
The fresh white really makes that ceiling detail pop!!…and LOL to the “pivot” reference ? My Dad would be clueless as well!
I was like “no one? no one watches friends?” C’mon dad!! :)
