Lake House Powder Room

Hey guys, I hope you are all staying healthy, we are dropping like flies over here! I was planning on starting to share our basement family room this week, but it has become ground zero for my sick kiddos. I’m pretty sure no one wants to see my poor snotty nosed kids and their mountain of used kleenex. Instead I realized I’ve never shared our tiny little lake house powder room off the mudroom.

A mudroom with a powder room

My dad told me it feels like a coffin in here – ha, and it is small, but it gets the job done.

Bathroom with board and batten and wallpaper

Since it’s such a small space, it’s a fun spot for wallpaper, and I love this pattern from Serena and Lily. We used the leftovers in the laundry room, which is adjacent to the mudroom as well, you can see it here if you missed that post. It’s nice to have that little peek of pattern in both rooms. It looks a little magic eye poster (anyone else remember those? C’mon, did anyone ever really see the dinosaur?) in these photos because of my wide angle lens, but it’s totally pretty and fun in person.

I still want to get some art for above the toilet, but I haven’t found anything I love yet. Also bathroom art is kind of hard, am I right? Like what is the appropriate thing to hang above a toilet…

A close up of a sink and a mirror

I found the mirror at World Market and it was originally antique brass, but it felt out of place in our house, so I spray painted it black. I love the contrast in here, and bonus, it’s on major sale right now if you need one too (see link below).

I’m keeping it short and sweet today, so I can get back to snuggling my sickie on the couch (and by snuggling on the couch, I mean sitting on the opposite end with a hoodie pulled over my head trying to avoid the spray of germs). I am super excited to share the basement soon…just as soon as I sanitize the snot out of it – pun intended. :)

  1. I know I am late to the game here – but can I ask you what the dimensions of the bathroom are? We are looking to squeeze a small powder room into our home but I’m not sure if we have the right dimensions. Thanks!

      1. That’s almost exactly what we will have – so glad to know it will work. Thanks! Your home is beautiful.

  2. Love the half bath! We have a half bath that is 34 inches by 92 inches. I have gotten a quote from two contractors to do wall moulding but both recommend not doing it because it will make the room feel too narrow. What size moulding did you use on the half bath? the chair rail and wall moulding seem to be less than 1 inch off the wall.

  3. I’m obsessed with your half bath! Could you tell me what size mirror you have? I’m looking to do something similar for my bathroom. Thanks

  4. Can you tell me the size of boards you used for the board & batten wall? It almost looks as if the vertical pieces are lattice. Thanks!

  5. Hi, I was internet-searching for “tiny powder rooms” and that´s how i got here :) I LOVE yours, and i think that wall paper was a smart decision because it gives kind of light and wideness to such a small room like this. I was wondering the measures of the room because i think it´s pretty similar to the room i have projected to turn in a powder room .
    Thanks!

  6. How do you hang this wallpaper? We are thinking of using it- but is it pre pasted? Removable? There is no info on the website. Thanks!

    1. Hi Paige, I had someone hang it for me but I believe he had to paste it and it was not prepasted. Thanks!

      1. Do you know what brand this pedestal sink is? I️ love it and can’t seem to find it! Adorable bathroom!

  7. LOOve it! I have a little bathroom too & put 2 floating shelves above the toilet for toilet paper, a pretty room spray & an extra hand towel. Just an idea!

  8. I think some words over the toliet …. flush please… ha just kidding but something witty and fun in big lettering so many choices on Etsy…. or even hobby lobby enjoy beautiful wallpaper… love

    1. Sandi…. do you have any particular etsy sites that you can think off right of hand? I love to know them since I am looking for laundry room quotes and bathroom ones. Thanks for your help in advance! Shawn (Female)

  9. Another darling space! I was wondering if you would share what you use for your board and batten treatment? Is the wall covering sheet rock or some other material? I also would like to know what the base boards and narrow boards are, pine, mdf, etc? Thanks so much!

  10. I absolutely love the slate floor! We are currently building and I want similar floors but am scared to do a lighter grout, especially around toilets…ya feel me? ? Have you had any issues? Or do you have any tips?

    1. I haven’t had any issues with the grout yet but we’ve only been her 8 months. This is also our guest bath that doesn’t get used very often but I definitely wouldn’t do the light grout in my son’s bathroom ha!

  11. I saw a cute sign that said “Have a Seat” but can’t for the life of me remember where I saw that. Would be cute above the toilet. Be well!

  12. We are currently redoing our powder room and our kids’ bathroom. We were looking for artwork on the weekend and saw a piece at @Home that made us think of those “magic eye” posters. Our kids (20 and 21) had no idea what we were talking about! Trying to find laminate countertop that won’t date in 5 years. Love your little room, as ours isn’t much bigger. I did have art: I used iron on T-shirt decals to make copies of original documents related to our cottage purchase and old photos of the property before we renovated, dates, etc.. Ironed them randomly onto the walls, then distressed them. Everyone loved having “reading material” when they visited the powder room. You will appreciate this: it took, Goo gone, a heat gun and sandpaper to get them off before we could repaint this week…. never again (although it was a really cool look). Hope your kiddies are better soon. Oil of oregano works wonders, along with Vitamin C.

    1. ha, oh man I can’t believe they didn’t know magic eye! I’m going to have to find one to show to my kids now. Sounds like you had quite the project on your hands wow!

  13. Kelly, you have a gift! From one room to the next your home is beautiful and so well put together! I love the wallpaper you chose.

I’m trying like crazy to keep my husband and myself healthy but we have guests coming over who have recently been sick so I removed the hand towels from my powder room and placed a container of unscented hand wipes next to the sink to (hopefully) prevent the spread of cold and flu germs. I have a cute little, step-on (to open the lid) trash can (from BB&B) in there.

Hope your littles are better soon!

    1. Ha! I actually just didn’t like how the soap container looked in photos so I removed it while I was shooting, I promise we wash our hands ;)

      1. I didn’t mean to imply that you didn’t wash! ? I have a pet peeve about people doing beautiful decor and then sticking an ugly Dial soap bottle on the sink.

  14. I love it! Your dad’s comment is funny. I feel like being in our dining room is like being inside a gift box. I like seeing how a room looks with the other rooms in the background. The flow is great! I know I have said it before ….but I just love your decorating taste. You rival Joanna Gaines. Stay well!

  15. Love it and the wll paper. I have a similar room with wallpaper and i hung a basket and put plants in it over the toliet! It gets the most comments from visitors! Lol #toiletartstruggleisreal
