Blue and White Coastal Dining Room

I’m taking you all back to my parent’s Florida remodel today, to share their new blue and white coastal dining room. Well via blog-land at least! I wish I could take you all there in person, especially those of us lucky enough to be up north dealing with the snow still. I don’t remember my kids ever having a snow day in April before, but at this point, I feel like we may be wearing snowsuits in July.

Let’s take a look at the below (very blurry) before again –

I know I sound like a broken record about the power of paint in this house, but really, it’s crazy how much just lightening up all the paint colors in this home changed everything. We also decided not to put a rug back in here. Now that we added the bar stool area, there wasn’t a good size rug that would work, but I also think it feels more open without it.

Oh and bonus, you can see the fridge in this shot! I got so many questions wondering where the refrigerator was when I shared the kitchen makeover post, and I can’t believe I didn’t take a photo from this angle last time I was visiting. So tada! It’s in the back corner over there – mystery solved!

The doors to the left lead right to a screened in porch overlooking the pool, which is the best spot in the house to have a cup of coffee, especially after a morning walk on the beach. My kids are really angling to just retire down to Florida now, and I tried to explain it doesn’t work that way. At the very least, they need to finish elementary school before they begin their life of leisure ;)

It was pouring rain when I shot this, so it looks a little gloomy, but all the landscaping makes you feel like you are up in a treehouse. Some of their mature trees took a hit with the hurricane this fall, but they already have grown back so much.

Back inside, the wood bead chandelier is such a fun beachy addition. There was a ceiling fan in here before, so this was a great opportunity to add some character.

I’m so jealous of the gorgeous orchids my mom is able to get down here in Florida for next to nothing. She has them all over the house, and they are such great low maintenance plants that add life to a room.

You can see the living room area off the dining room below, and I will probably be sharing this room next week.

My mom found this little vintage chest at a flea market and the dock cleat handles are such a cute touch and a fun nod to their neighborhood since they live on a marina.

Thanks for coming along for the Florida tour today. I’m off to shovel the sidewalks back here in snowy Michigan. In April. Argh, maybe I’ll just embrace it and make some snow angels while I’m out there ;)

  1. Hi I love your color palette so coastal. Can I ask where you purchased the chairs? Or did you redo paint color? I love the color painting my chairs. Great job!!

  2. HI Kelly! Amazing transformation! Do you by chance know what the size of the dining space is?

  3. Hi Kelly, I have to say I fell in love with your transformation of your mom’s home. I am retired in Florida and have been struggling with paint choices, as well as other remodeling choices. Your excellent photos are perfect for showing my husband what our place could be. Thanks so much for your excellent post! I am going to get some topsail paint and see how it transforms my dusty rose entry!

  4. Hi Kelly, it’s Nancie from Florida. Please forgive me for not commenting for a hundred years! Lot of personal stuff going on. I have been catching up on your blog. You and your Mom are so talented! Love both of your coastal homes. I love the screened in porch. The outdoor furniture looks like mine from Pier1. Would you be so kind to tell me where your Mom purchased the rug on the porch? It would be perfect on my lanai. Thanks so much. Looking forward for more of you projects!

  5. Wow! The paint colour definitely lightened up the rooms, but so does the lighter choice of furniture. It looks great.
Good choice with not putting a rug in the dining room. Although I love the look of a rug, they require much more cleaning maintenance and make a room look smaller.

  6. Love that chandelier! My favorite spot is the outdoor deck, it looks so inviting…I could sit out there for hours. Great job! Keep warm up there in good ole’ MI…spring WILL come!

  7. Your mother’s and your house are the stuff of my dreams! Can I please be adopted so I can spend time in each home?

  8. Love. It!! Again, bravo to design, color choices, layout and everything else; quite an uplifting transformation (clapping…clapping) :-)

  9. Beautiful, the whole place. The first thing I noticed were the gorgeous orchids — so jealous. We are sharing your lovely weather up here in Toronto. Ice storm for 3 days and now snow. Stay warm.

  10. Your Mama’s kitchen is my favorite room in her house! I especially love the counter stools! (I have major counter stool envy). What in the world am I saying?.. I truly love the entire house! Every room, every nook & cranny is lovely… inside & outside! You are a fabulous Mother/Daughter designing team ?

  11. Thanks for sharing some sunshine with us. This weather is crazy. I woke up to snow on the ground here in Connecticut in April! I don’t remember snow this late either! But your blog gives me hope–soon it will be warm!

  12. What color of grout did you use for the tile? I can’t tell if it’s silver shadow or something else.

  13. Such a bright, cheerful space! I’d love to sit in that screened in porch with my morning coffee.

  14. Love the new look and the pop of color in the dining chairs. Are they teal or more of a green color? Thx for sharing your talents!

    1. They are tealish green ha, that doesn’t answer your question very well but they look different depending on the time of day. They are really pretty in person I would say they are more on the teal side than a true green though.

      1. Ok. Thx so much. In one of the photos they almost look like a pale turquoise. Interesting color and so pretty!

  15. Love the transformation! What paint/primer did you use on the kitchen cabinets?
Thanks for sharing your home and your parent home.
