Simple Fall Home Decor

I’m normally breaking out my boots and sweaters, ready to embrace my inner pumpkin spice latte this time of year (although ew, not really a PSL fan – anyone else out there with me?). However, I’ve been a little slow to hop on the hayride this year – summer just felt way too short with the Mr. gone. Alas, the leaves are already changing in Michigan, so it’s time to reluctantly get with the program and share a few simple fall home decor updates I’ve added to the living room.

To get in the mood, I made homemade applesauce and pumpkin muffins with butterscotch chips to channel some autumnal vibes. Then, I hit the backyard with my scissors. I love cutting some of the beach grasses from our yard to bring the fall indoors.

This Karl Forester is from out by the pool. I tucked a few bunches of it into these new vases that I snagged at Target to fall-ify our mantel.

I mentioned Juniper Print Shop in my Friday Feels post last week, and here is the print I downloaded from their site. The subtle golden fall colors are so pretty, and it was only $20. I put it in a frame that I already had, and it’s really changed the look of the mantel.

In that same post last week, I shared the green and oatmeal-colored Target pillows that hopped in my cart.

This green checked one over here might have just followed me home too…

I love how they mix in with the other pillows I used for summer. You don’t need to swap everything around each season, just adding a fresh pillow or two can really update a space. You can even shop your home instead of the store. I added this big knit blanket that was tucked away in the linen closet. It used to be on our bed a few years ago and now we all fight over snuggling up in this corner.

I love my big planter of jade that normally sits on the coffee table but I swapped it out for a vase filled with some more beach grass. I’m not sure what this stuff is called, but it grows along a marshy spot on the lake, so I snipped a few. It’s so feathery and pretty. The jade found a new home on the dining table for now.

I bought these pretty candlesticks at a local store called Stoffer Home this spring, and they are the perfect touch of coziness on our sofa table.

Other than playing musical pillows and snipping some free stuff from the yard, this is as fall as I’m getting on the inside this year! It feels good to simplify, but still have things feeling fresh for the new season.

My window boxes and front porch are up next as well as a few more batches of applesauce!

  1. Thanks for your prompt response, is your architect’s firm listed somewhere on your blog? If not, what firm did you use?

    1. It’s from J&N Stone and the color is Quartz and the style is Price. Or vice versa I can never remember. If you google all of that you should find it!

  2. Summer flew by and not sure where it went! Your room is very pretty Kelly. Just a few changes is all it needed. I’m doing very little. Enjoy my cozy pillows, throws and fireplace when it gets really cool. Have to tell ya, your writing makes me laugh. I don’t care for pumpkin spice stuff either!

  3. It’s beautiful! Do you live your sectional? I’ve been looking at MH furniture, just scared to order online without sitting on it.

  4. Beautiful! And love it! May I add one more comment? I’m not a huge fan of overdone pumpkin spice in ANYTHING either. But if I have to smell fake chemical scents of pumpkin spice or anything else, I want to walk out of every store, church, or home that has it. Chemical scents are dangerous to our bodies, from respiratory system to other issues, and I wish our society would just simply outlaw it! I’ve now walked out of our church because of it, stores, etc. Nothing like fresh, clean air, for restoring us inside and out. Real apple cider simmering on the stove is a delight, but the rest can go away! Not necessary and overdone. Love your home!

  5. We’re still swimming here in California and I too am trying to hold on to this season as long as possible! I adore everything you’ve added for fall-beautiful, fresh, and so very tasteful. I’m also not a fan of the PSL, just don’t get the hype for overly sweet drinks! ?

  6. I would never tire of that view Kelly. You always put just the right touches when switching things up. And from one Kelly to another – not a fan of Pumpkin Spice!!

  7. The pillows and grasses add such a pretty fall touch to that beautiful room. And PSL? ‘Ew’ is right! Thanks for the chuckle.

  8. I love simple too. I’m decluttering, organizing and purging around here. Want to live with less “stuff”. Love the grasses from outside ?

  9. I only enjoy Pumpkin Spice Lattes from Starbucks. I’m not a fan of anything else flavored PS! It’s way overdone.
I can understand why you keep the Fall decorations inside simple, when you have that fabulous view of nature’s decor! Please post more pix of the trees when they completely change! Also, we could use some cooler weather down here in Missouri!!

  10. Hi! Always love you home and posts. Could you share the pumpkin muffin recipe? Sounds like what I need for church this Sunday! Thanks!
