White and Blue Lake House Kitchen

Hey strangers! I took the last couple of weeks of summer off to hang with my kids and it was so fun. We swam, hung out in the boat, baked cookies and generally just lazed around. We even managed to squeeze in family photos, which I will be sharing soon. Someone, cough cough, the Mr., fell in the lake during the photo shoot and it all went down hill from there…or uphill depending on how you look at it. I haven’t seen the photos yet, so we will see!

A modern kitchen with stainless steel appliances and wooden cabinets

Monday was back to school for us and they were ready to go, well mostly, my daughter would like to propose school start at 10:00 rather than 8:00 because our 6:20 wake up time was a bit jarring after a lazy summer. I for one, am excited to get back to the regularly scheduled programming around here on the blog. I plan on posting on Wednesdays and Fridays again like usual.

A view of a kitchen

Today I thought I would share the results of my extensive bar stool hunt this summer (see this post if you missed it), and a few new shots of our white and blue lake house kitchen! I went with the Riviera Backless barstools from Serena and Lily. I’m SO happy with them.

Well actually the whole family is…

Even Charlie – he enjoys lounging underneath awaiting the crumbs.

They are actually surprisingly comfy on your rear, really well made, and oh so pretty.

I love how they bring a wood tone over to the island area still, but also echo the navy from the breakfast nook chairs. I thought it would be fun to show the view from the pantry.

While we are on the subject of those chairs, I finally bought some fabric to recover the cushions, and I’m excited to share their little makeover with you soon. Assuming my sewing machine and I can get along well enough to sew them. I might enlist my mother in law for help!

A kitchen island with flowers in a vase

I love this time of year because I have over 20 hydrangea bushes in our yard, so I’m never without fresh flowers for the kitchen. I keep trying the fruit on the counter, if they see it they will eat it Jedi mind trick, but it also just looks pretty too.

Let’s ignore the fact that I still have last year’s Christmas cards piled in that basket underneath the island…

I have big plans to organize and clean all of the things today. Does anyone else go into a weird nesting mode when school starts? Something about Fall I guess! I’m really excited to get started on some Fall decor content over here on the blog, so look for that soon. Thanks for hanging in there with my sporadic posts this summer :)

  1. I just love your style. Your kitchen is my absolute fave!
I feel like this is a different view – and just as pretty!

  2. When I saw your little guy sitting on the stool, I was taken by the fact that the seating surface looks larger than a lot of stools…..I think that would make the very comfortable!

    1. Ha I’ve been asked this before actually and it was a wedding gift almost 15 years ago now. It’s from Crate and Barrel, not sure if they still have it?

  3. Love the barstools. Since I know your mother in law very well, I know she loves to help sew.

    1. They are just the regular old classic ones from Lowe’s that are cheap! The grout is a medium gray I don’t remember the name – sorry!

  5. Ive just begun to follow you this summer as I’m in a big renovation project and your taste appeals to me. After raising 4 wonderful kids we decided to do all the things we wished we had back when we built our house 20 years ago. Your post today brought back all the feels from those first days of back to school. LOVE that you still have Xmas cards in your kitchen in August – makes total sense to me!

    1. Oh thanks for following along Regina! I hate recycling the Christmas cards every year so I just hang on to them. My kids love to look through them :) Have fun renovating!

  6. I noticed the Christmas cards, and I was like, “Yay! I’m not the only one!” ;) Glad you like the new barstools. They look great!
