Christmas Window Boxes
So I totally cheated this year…
I tackled my window boxes like 2 weeks before Thanksgiving when it was a balmy 62 degrees. My neighbors probably thought I was nuts…but we will get to that…
Last year I waited too long and the dirt was frozen solid. I had to pour boiling water over the dirt in my window boxes to thaw it, so I could stick the branches and flowers in.
Yeah, picture me standing on the roof with a tea kettle in hand, and you get the idea! So now I’m not so crazy am I?
Well, save that thought…
Like my giant ornaments in the boxes?
What? Just another afternoon spray painting bouncy balls in the front yard :)
I added some branches from the woods and some faux poinsettias. These look really pretty when covered in snow, once the weather turns wintery, (if it ever turns wintery, it’s supposed to be 60 today, what?!) I’ll post some pics.
The upper window boxes got a little wind blown, we had a big storm complete with hail after I finished these up…and I just can’t talk myself back onto the roof :)
Stay tuned for the rest of my outdoor decor this week!
Hi Kelly, What kind of spray paint do you use? There are soooooo many to choose from, and I see that some leave the balls tachy wet for a very long time. I would really like to try this. Love the window boxes.
Hi this post is 5 years old so I honestly don’t remember I’m sorry!
What you do is GREAT AND I LOVE THEM ALL
I wonder if you would get the same look if you painted balloons tied around the skewer and pressed into the dirt for the look of different size and colors of ornaments?
Maybe! Go for it :)
i loved the idea… But I still am waiting on the paint to dry 3 days later! Any advise why spray paint is not drying? It is tacky!
I have got same thing the paint is still sticky.
Love it. Wish I had window boxes on my house so the I could do it this Christmas
I love the idea, but I do have a question. My daughter has been putting large ornaments on the trees in her front yard. How could you possibly hang them on the trees?
HOW ABOUT DRESSING THEM UP A LITTLE WITH YARN OR TWINE WRAPPED AROUND THEM, THEN USING THAT FOR HANGING? JUST A THOUGHT, NOT SURE HOW IT WOULD WORK OUT…..OR EVEN FISHING LINE MAYBE?
thats a fun idea!
Hmm, maybe with fishing wire? Somehow? I’ll have to think about that one!
Attach desired string to a sandwich pick or other solid piece (I believe the skewer cut to a 1 inch size would fit) and slide each side inside the whole to put air in the balloon, leaving the string outside. Nice idea! Thanks for sharing.
That looks so pretty. I laughed out loud on the bouncy balls! What a great idea though.
Love this idea. Those big ornaments can be pricey and I have 6 window boxes. I’m marking this for next year. Merry Christmas!
The window boxes look great! Great idea to spray paint bouncy balls!
Brilliant! The window boxes look great and the neighbours will be sorry they didn’t do theirs while the weather was balmy.
Very, very clever. I love the greenery with just a touch of red and those fabulous spray painted balls. Great job!!
They are so pretty!! I wish I was your neighbor so I could see you hanging out onto your roof all of the time… Especially with a tea pot!!
What a great idea! I thought they were just large ornaments! Very clever. No matter what the neighbors say! ;-D
XO,
Jane
They look great. Perfect for winter – bouncy balls and all.
LOL! You are so funny. This looks gorgeous — I would have never thought to spray paint bouncy balls for an ornament look, but WOW! They look awesome! I’m glad you got your outdoor decor up before it got too chilly. It’s still in the 70s where I live — I’m ready for some colder weather! ;-)
