Coastal Lake House Bedroom

I don’t mean to leave you all hanging at the pool house. I’m at the mercy of my UPS guy waiting for a few deliveries to arrive, but hopefully, I will share more soon! In the meantime, I’m thinking spring or trying to anyway, it’s currently snowing and 5 degrees as I type here in Michigan. I’ve been working on a little spring refresh in our bedroom.

As most “little refreshes” start in our house, I swapped one thing and it all snowballed from there (give a mouse a cookie style). Our bedroom rug had some weird yellowing/fading on it, and just in general had seen better days. It had a good run at least, we’ve had it a few years. We tried flipping it around but, the fading was still obvious so it was time to move on.

I found this super soft and cozy knit rug from Serena and Lily. I know I said this was a spring refresh, but wow this has made our room so much cozier these last few freezing weeks of winter.

I’ve never been one to care about how soft a rug is because I like the look of jute. However, I have to say, getting out of bed in the morning is just a little bit easier with this underfoot.

The rug is where the snowball effect started. While I was adding the rug to the room I decided I wanted a little more texture in our bedding as well. I grabbed a new coverlet and shams to add to our bed. I’m not quite ready to give up on our flannel duvet cover (hello 5 degrees) but this waffle pattern blanket is the perfect lightweight addition to the foot of the bed. It will be great for warm summer nights as well.

I really wanted to keep the color palette sort of tone on tone, and soothing in here. I liked the idea of cozy texture vs bright color and I’m so happy with how relaxing it feels.

For a little pop of color, I added this long lumbar pillow from The Danielle Oakey Shop. Her pillows are gorgeous, and I’ve had my eye on this pretty blue color for a while.

The pillow prompted a little art swap in my house as well. The sailboat painting that was here was a little too teal with this subtle spring palette. Don’t worry, the painting is still a fave and found a new home in our entryway. Knowing me it will eventually work its way around the house and back to this spot again. I added this gorgeous print from Juniper Printshop for a change of pace.

Oh and I forgot we added the stools at the end of the bed too! I actually bought them at Christmas with a gift card I had, but I’m finally getting around to sharing them.

We used to have a large bench at the end of the bed here that felt a bit too large. After living without it for a while, it felt a little too empty. These compact stools were the perfect compromise. Not to mention they are great to pull over to the armchair to kick your feet up.

I think that’s it for our spring coastal lake house bedroom refresh. I can’t wait to see how pretty it looks with actual springtime sunshine, and colors outside instead of the every day blizzard we are currently experiencing. So ready to see blue water out those doors again!

  1. Kelly,
Your bedroom refresh is gorgeous (as is your entire home!). Do you have any recommendations of your go-to comforter or duvet cover for spring/summer after it’s time to retire the flannel that would continue the same look? Or for an investment-worthy set of white sheets? Thank you in advance!

    1. I LOVE Serena and Lily’s bedding. We have their sheets and I love them and several of their duvet covers and quilts. THey are a splurge but the quality is great.

  2. Kelly,
Just love this bedroom look! I’ve been working on a refresh for our lakehouse master, this will be my inspiration ❤️ Do you have shades on your windows? If so what kind are they? Trying to find something that will bring as much light into the room during the day but give us privacy at night

  3. Unfortunately, I was unable to see this post because of an ad that sits over it the entire time. When I try to X it out, it doesn’t disappear. Thought I would give you a heads up. Love your posts!

    1. Thanks, Nicole, my ad network seems to be having a glitch today! I’ve seen a few other bloggers mention issues too. I’ll email them, thanks for the heads up!

  4. Great job Kelly. So soothing. Is the rug the ivory or the darker one? Also can you tell me what size it is and the size of the ceiling light that one comes in 3 sizes. Hard to tell. Thank you

    1. Sorry, I should have mentioned the colors this is the Fog color in 8×10. I believe we have the medium-sized light fixture – thanks!

  5. The space looks beautiful! The rug and stools are so pretty. Just wish Serena and Lily was more affordable. Those prices are a little hard to stomach, even at the sale price.

    1. It’s definitely a splurge but I tend to splurge a little more in our bedroom than anywhere else in the house. Especially on bedding because we use it every day.

  6. Love your refresh. It looks so calm and peaceful. One question about the wall paint, SW Extra White. I am getting ready to repaint an entire small house that is on the dark side. I would love to lighten it up with a white paint that reads warm but doesn’t have undertones that are hard to work with. Does Extra White have an undertone?

    1. Hi Joni, extra white has zero undertones which is why it’s my go-to white paint. You should still try a sample out in your space though to make sure it reads warm enough for you. Our warmer floors tend to give it a warmer feel – thanks!

      1. Thank you! I’m planning to get several samples and try them throughout the space. Fingers crossed!

  7. Hi!
I was wondering how you like the Keane nightstands from Crate & Barrel. I have been eyeing them for a few months now. May I ask how long you’ve had them? Any pros & cons you can provide would be greatly appreciated! Btw I love your style and your entire home is absolutely LOVELY!!

    1. We really love them! No complaints and I love that they have a built-in plug in the top drawer so I can tuck my phone and computer in there to charge at night. My only possible complaint is the texture makes them a little difficult to dust but a microfiber cloth handles it pretty well.

  8. I just love the texture of the coverlet and shams. Just lovely. I decided to start some spring cleaning even with the current snow storm going on. I freshened up my kitchen with a number of food storage containers and also a lot of acrylic storage containers sized 10″ x 4″ x 3″ that slide in an out of the cupboard instead of digging around to find something. Another refresh is a new 30″ round mirror for the living room. I had kept our fireplace mantel with a white winter wonderland theme up until just this week and have transitioned the mantel and artwork to spring. It’s amazing how a few little things give your house a lift.

  9. Love your dreamy new bedding and the stools. And that gorgeous rug really pulls it all together. Simply lovely, Kelly.

  10. Please link the frame & size listed for the art! Wanting to order a print from the print shop, but having a tough time finding a large frame with matte. Also, what size did you purchase the rug in?

    1. Hey Karissa, the fram was from Hobby Lobby so I don’t have a link. I actually just used a piece of white poster board for a matte :) The rug is an 8×10 – thanks!

  11. Love it! Love the tone on tone. Very calming. The link to the bed is broken. Help because I’d love to buy it!

    1. Hey oh shoot, it’s working for me and I had the Mr. try it on his computer too? It’s from Wayfair. You can email me otherwise and I can send it to you if it’s still not working.

      1. Got it to work thanks! I think it’s because I’m in Canada. I wouldn’t have guessed it was that one as the Zuma white looks like a beige linen on Wayfair while it looks like a true white in your home. You ordered the zuma white correct?
