Playroom Decor Changes Part 2
If you missed last week’s post, you haven’t heard that I changed the playroom around again. You can check it out here if you missed it! The biggest change came with moving our living room furniture up here and getting rid of the blue couch that was here. The kids have loved having the extra trampolines/fort building cushions/seating up here.
Of course I had just painted this room all white, before I found out I’d be moving the white couches up here which made me freak out that it would feel a bit like a padded cell (frankly might not be a bad idea to have on some days!). I decided if I added lot of color in other places I could get away with it, because who wants to repaint?!
The first big thing I added was this fun rug from Land Of Nod. I love all the colors in it and it also feels like a pot holder I once made when I was 8, so it had that going for it. Please tell me you made of those too? I’m sure my mom has a box of them rotting in her basement from my looming faze.
My kids are obsessed with sitting on it and counting the stripes, colors, and picking out their favorite sections. It really grounds the room having such a large rug in here too. Bonus – Buddy hasn’t tried to eat it or pee on it yet, so he must like it too.
I kept all my colorful pillows from Walmart, but you may notice that back wall got a change.
I moved the big cork board art displays that used to be above the toy storage over to the other side of the room. They are right by the art closet and craft table now so it makes a bit more sense. Plus, now when you look in this room from the hallway you see just a few framed photos and the toy storage. It’s a little less busy for the eye when walking by.
Also, please a moment of silence for how sweet and tiny my little man used to be, I can’t even deal!
I also finally decided to paint the tv cabinet in here. I went with duck egg blue by Annie Sloan, mainly because I found a can of it that I forgot I had while rummaging around for my fall decorations.
The other thing I did was stain a few of these crates I had in the garage and add wheels to the bottom. They are perfect for some extra storage for random shaped things like light sabers and bongo drums that don’t fit anywhere else.
I actually love all the white now, I think it’s a quiet backdrop for all the energy the other fun and colorful elements bring to the room. I’m sure this won’t be the last time this room changes though, it seems to be the most ever changing room in the house, mainly because my kids are ever changing. The way they play and use this room keeps evolving, so I’m sure it will continue to grow up with them…until it eventually gets taken over by the Mr. into his man cave (sob!).

Hey Kelly. I have this rug for our playroom (thanks to you) and really want the love and numbers pillow. I looked and can’t find them, do you know where you bought them and if they are still avail to buy?
Thanks so much! LOVE YOUR HOME
Looks wonderful , Kelly! I love the rug!
Wow, I just love this space. That rug is to die for and I totally made those little loom things when I was a kid too! Pretty sure I don’t have saved anywhere….ha!
Thanks Christine! My daughter is now making them too, I could have saved some money and put her to work on making a rug ;)
I LOVE the red door on the wall — it gives a great pop of color and takes up a lot of the white wall space. Great job with this latest re-design!
Thanks Sabrina, it’s finally feeling like it coming together in here! It’s such an awkward shaped room it has always been the hardest spot in our house for me.

How absolutely perfect and adorable! We have the Ikea shelves too, in white. I use them for our homeschool. God bless!
Love it! Any source information on the round table and the chairs? They would be perfect for our playroom. Thanks!
Hi Sandra, the table was a thrift store find. I didn’t want to spend a ton on a table my kids would color all over. Secret tip I paint over the top every 2 or 3 months when it starts to get really bad ha ;) The chairs are from overstock.com
It looks really cute. I love those four wooden frames with the cork and the children’s artwork. That is a really nice idea. Maybe I’ll try that in our mudroom over their hooks for their jackets and bags. I think I’ll pin it!
Oh I like the idea of that in a mudroom! So cute!
I love the white couches with the white walls! Everything looks great Kelly!!
Thanks Ashley :)
The room looks great, but the big question is what did you put in the living room to replace the white sofa and loveseat??? I am so curious!!
Oh hey Jil, more white furniture ha :) Of course! If you search new living room furniture the post should pop up on my blog.
I love it! The furniture placement is really interesting. I never would have thought to put that couch in the middle (rather than on the wall), but I like how it defines the space. Thanks for sharing!
Hey Laura, I know we tried the couch on the wall but it’s hard to tell with the opening of the room right there it was really awkward to walk right into the side of the couch upon entering the room. It works like this for now, but someday I will definitely be buying new furniture that fits the space a bit better. Someday when my kids don’t destroy things so easily ha
Love your changes! I love the white walls with all the colorful accents. Yup, I also went through a looming stage! :)
This room is just wonderful! I love the white and pops of color. I think I could spend all day sitting in the bean bags reading a book…and what a cute puppy:)
This room does it all! Great place to hang out. Love the separate spaces for creativity, relaxing and etc. The new rug is so fun. May I ask your source for kid’s table and chairs? Looking for a set that won’t soon be outgrown.
Love the changes you’ve made Kelly. And…you didn’t break the bank. It is homey but kid friendly. Best of both worlds. Love the framed map of MI. Great job!
Which paint is Thorwood? I may have to try it somewhere? ;)
The loom phase… I remember it well! The room looks great and your little man is precious still! That photo is adorable!! And yea for Buddy! Extra treats for you!! Maybe all the colors keep his mind pre-occupied on something other than peeing/pooping! :-). Thx for sharing. Have an awesome day ;-)
Tiny man still looks pretty sweet if you ask me.
Rooms looks good too!
He is still the sweetest :)
How cozy!! And I’m so proud of Buddy — perhaps you’ve finally found his puppy taste. It seems like he likes color :-) Now, may I come over and just sit and read??? I’ll be really quiet – you won’t even know I”m there. Great job!!
I love it! The rug is made for a play room . Adorable .
This looks so fresh & colorful for kids to enjoy- I love it. The rug is perfect (& yes, I had a loom phase. I think we all did.) ; )
Childhood would not be complete without a loom phase!
