5 things to put you in the Christmas spirit – Friday Feels

Welcome to another Friday Feels where I share what I’m “feeling” this week. This post contains affiliate links.

So, I know it’s early for most of you to be thinking about getting in the Christmas spirit, and I promise I’m not skipping over Thanksgiving on purpose. This year, we are headed to Costa Rica with the Mr.’s family for Thanksgiving, and since the snow is supposed to fly this weekend, I couldn’t be more excited for some sand and sun! I’m busy decking the halls over here, so that it’s all Christmasy when we get back from our trip. I’m sharing some of my fave things to get me in the holiday mood. Here’s a little snowy pic from last year to mentally prepare myself for the snow that’s coming today.

#1 – Music – I’m one of those obnoxious people who loves Christmas music. Much to the chagrin of my children who always groan when I start playing it the day after Halloween. I shared this Simply Christmas by Leslie Odom Jr. last year, but it’s still one of my fave albums. New to my rotation this year is the new John Legend Christmas album A Legendary Christmas and it’s so good! If you follow my instagram stories, you may have seen me share that he performed at a party the Mr. and I were at a few weeks ago and he was amazing. His voice is just perfection, and when he plays the piano – swoon! I snapped this shot of him…you’re welcome ;)

#2 – Christmas jammies – I get my kids some cozy Christmas jammies every year, and it’s their favorite thing. I always give them to them around Thanksgiving, so they can wear them all season long. These Rudolf Pajamas from Target are hilarious. They aren’t available for a few more days yet, which is making me crazy because I need them in my life! And, yes I will be getting these in my size too.

I also love these cute Holiday Fair Isle Pajamas because they can wear them all winter long.

I personally snagged slippers for myself and they have become my Mr. Rogers house shoes. I leave them by the back door and slide into them every time I come home. These Minnetonka ones are my fave.

#3 – Gingerbread houses – My kids and I always kick off the Christmas season by making a gingerbread house together. I made one for my Christmas kitchen I shared earlier this week, but the kids always do a super colorful one with the Mr. that we keep out on the counter all season. In the true spirit of the season this typically ends up in a fight over the “architectural style” of the house between my kids. :) So, this year I’m going with this Mini Village Kit so they can each do one of their own.

#4 – Christmas lights – I always look for a few new things to add to my decor every year, and this year I bought these classic candle lights for our tree. I’m obsessed with them! They come with a remote that changes their color from white lights, to warm light, to colored lights. I’m still waiting for my tree to be delivered, (more on that soon!), so I don’t have them up yet. My kids are so excited to have colored lights on the tree this year (and I’m excited to switch them back to white when they aren’t around ha!). They have little clips on them, so you can make them sit up on your tree, and I love that they are battery operated so no untangling wires.

Side note – if you are looking for a great tree my flocked tree from last year (see it in our home here) is on sale right now! You can check it out here.

#5 – Movie and Game night – One of our favorite things to do when we are in winter hibernation mode is to put on a Christmas classic and play a game. My kids love Elf, The Grinch, and A Christmas Story. We’ve all seen them a million times, so it’s great to have on in the background while we play our favorite games.

The board games we have been playing the most lately are –

Exploding Kittens (trust me on this one, it’s so fun!)

5 Crowns

Charades for Kids

Blurt

These would also make great stocking stuffers too!

I’m back to stalking my UPS driver, hoping he drops my tree off soon! Spoiler alert – I’m going with a non-flocked tree this year, and I’m super excited about trying something different. Happy weekend!

  1. Oh no! I just ordered your tree from last year…but now I’m hoping I don’t regret it when I see what you do to your new (unflocked) tree this year. Always look forward to your posts. :)

  2. Thanks, Kelly, for the Christmas music tips! I also NEED my Christmas music and right after Halloween always seems appropriate! ? I live in sunny Florida (currently in the 80’s here), so I need all the help I can get to get in the holiday spirit! Also love the reindeer pajamas!

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy Costa Rica and soak up the sun while you can! ?

  3. Can you send me the link to your christmas candles on your tree? I HATE putting up the lights, this seems like a great alternative – and can be colored too. The link above is not working …

  4. Love, love, love Christmas and it’s never too early to play the beautiful music. I, too, start listening the day after Halloween and turn it down when my hubby is nearby, at least until thanksgiving. Then it’s always on. Lol. Can’t wait to start decorating.

  5. You know I love a ‘Kelly Christmas’ cant wait to see what you are cooking up. Have an amazing trip with the Fam!!

  6. Happy Thanksgiving! Have a fabulous time in Costa Rica.
