Brass and Bronze Christmas Decor
Last week I gave my fireplace a little makeover (more on that in a bit). Of course as soon as I was finished, I needed to see it decorated for Christmas. So, as the fresh grout was drying I started bringing up the Christmas bins, and well here we are! I decided to use a mix of warm colors, brass, and bronze Christmas decor this year.

That color scheme came about because of my new velvet accent chairs. Which also came about from the new fireplace grout… In typical me fashion, things are just snowballing around here. :)

Let’s back up to the fireplace first. When we built our home 7 years ago, this was my original plan for the fireplace, but the installer wouldn’t do it. Come to find out this is a pretty common occurrence since it’s such a subjective method. No one wants to do it.

I figured I could hire this out down the road, but I couldn’t actually find anyone willing to do it! On a whim last week I stopped at Lowe’s and picked up some gray grout and got to work. I don’t have a step by step DIY, or tips or tricks for you. I basically took handfuls of grout and shoved it in the cracks and wiped it down with a sponge until I liked the look.

This was by far the messiest pain in the butt project of my life and I now see why no one wants to do it. However, I LOVE how it turned out! It looks so much softer and lighter and cottage-y.
Here’s a little before and after so you can see the difference –

I also added a new fireplace screen to help my gas fireplace look more like a wood burning one.

Now that the fireplace was feeling soft, warm, and cozy, I was craving a cozier feeling in the living room over all. I loved my navy chairs that we have had for years in here, but they always feel very summery with their denim looking fabric.

I found these gorgeous brown velvet chairs that were perfect for this room. I love that they swivel. It’s so nice for when we have guests over to turn towards the kitchen or dining area.

Now that I had the pretty tan velvet chairs I found a roll of tan velvet ribbon leftover from last Christmas in a drawer. Perfect! My bronze and brass Christmas decor was born.

I used ornaments from years past with a few new velvet and paper additions thrown in.

I kept the mantel fairly simple this year with a wreath and pretty bow. I added these inexpensive brass lamps that I’ve programed to come on at dusk. It’s so cheery and warm in here!

The lamps weren’t quite as tall as I wanted, so I propped them up on some old books.

All my throw pillows are from shopping around various spots in my house. Mostly a mix from Pottery Barn and H&M.

I found this oversized footed brass bowl for my coffee table and I filled it with leftover garland pieces and ornaments.

That’s about it for my Christmas living room this year! I shot this room on two different days. It’s so pretty in here on a sunny day, but there is something about the cozy candlelight on a rainy day too.

Truly, no matter what you do, you have the spectacular back drop of the lake which is spectacular. So, no matter what you do, you can’t go wrong! 🥰
Having said that, I LOVE, lOVE the fireplace now. The addition of the screen does make it look more like wood burning! Good move!
The brown velvet chairs and ribbon are gorgeous! Was cringing at the blue, before. Everything blue! Ha. Like I said though, who can complain, the backdrop of the lake is so stunning. Who cares what is truly inside! Your family is truly blessed… IMHO!
Love it all!!
Enjoy and His Blessings Always!

Huge improvement on your fireplace! Congratulations. The stone looks so much more authentic than it did before. It pays to take a chance!
So cozy and beautiful! Can you tell me where you got your garland?
Thanks,
Anne
Really nice!! It sure its cozy and warm. Love looking forward to your Christmas trees every year.!!
Hi, love your blog. Really impressed with your Christmas decor and color palette……definitely going to try some of your ideas this year. Also love what you did to your fireplace! My own fireplace is very similar with color and stone size and have wanted to do exactly what you did. Can you share what color and type of grout you got at Lowes and how you did it and what tools are needed?
Thank you,
Helen
The fireplace looks beautiful as well as your Christmas decorations!
