Christmas Mantel Decor
The Christmas boxes haves officially scattered themselves all over the house.
Yeah they did it, not me!
I would never go from one box to the next in search of our stockings only to finally find them in the very last box…
and then decide to make new ones anyways – that doesn’t sound like me at all… :)
I had no idea what I was going to do for my Christmas mantel decor this year. I really loved my sign from last year (apparently you all do too since it’s still one of my most popular posts.) but I wanted to go for a little more classic look vs rustic this year.
I was trying to describe to the Mr. the feel I wanted this year – white Christmas, cozy snow ball fight, vintage red, with plenty of jingle bells thrown in…
I think I lost him at snow ball fight, because he got that glazed look in his eyes…
Although he did inform me that if I was going to be decorating our house around a “cozy snow ball fight” I clearly had never been involved in a real snow ball fight.
I hit up Goodwill to pick up a bunch of sweaters (you can see my cute sweater pillow here) and tossed them on the bed next to my Autumn door decor, when inspiration struck! What would happen if I stuck one of the sweater in my embroidery hoop?
Holiday goodness that’s what happened!
Don’t worry – I’ll be sharing the full tutorial on how to make your own fun Christmas Embroidery Hoop art later in the week.
For now I’ll just show you the pretty pictures
complete with ice skates for when the lake freezes over.
And pretty birch branches that have me rethinking my fall back career plans as a lumberjack (don’t ask, just trust me when I say I won’t be swinging an axe again anytime soon).
I think I’ll stick to decorating and wrangling kids…
and planning an epic snow ball fight the likes of which the Mr. has never seen! :)

Love the mantle – it really looks terrific. I like your hoop very much and that was such a great idea. Thanks so much for sharing your post.
Mary
Thank you Mary!
Pinned! Beautiful Kelly :-)
Thanks for pinning, lisa!
Oh I just love this! Pinning : ) That huge embroidery hoop is nothing but pure awesomeness!! :
Thanks Ashley, tutorial coming soon!
OMG I love the sweater in the embroidery hoop! It looks like a giant ornament over your fireplace. Really very peaceful, like the first snow inside your living room. It looks like a very cozy place to curl up in front of over the coming wintery nights.
I love that idea Miranda, exactly the feeling I was going for – thank you :)
You did a great job on the stitching! The whole thing together is beautiful!
Very pretty! I just love the hoop and the garland. Where did you find the garland?
I got the garland at Michaels last year – thanks!
Oh, well at least he sort of heard what you said. You crack me up. Gorgeous mantel as always.
Thanks Kim, in one ear and out the other right? :)
Beautiful! Love the white with accents of red!! You need to come to help me !:) This is magazine photo worthy!
Thanks Aunt Louise :)
Love the mantle. I am totally digging the cozy snowball fight. You are so clever to use an old sweater and a hoop. I love it!
Thanks Camille! Congrats on the new baby, enjoy your snuggle time ;)
Very, very cute!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful as always, Kelly!!
Kelly this is gorgeous, loving the greenery and the pops of red. PINNED!!
Cynthia
Thanks for pinning Cynthia!!!
Kelly, So pretty. I love the pops of red against the white.
Thanks Becky, I’m loving using a bit of red this year :)
That is really beautiful! I love everything about it, especially the hoop!
Thanks Kari!
Cozy snowball fight. HA! That made me laugh so hard! My husband, who’s from TX, probably would have bought it, though.
Umm, holy awesome embroidery Batman! And those stockings a great! For a woman who always says she can’t sew, you seem to be doing pretty well, Kelly. They remind me of my Etsy stockings (which are burlap and linen). They sold like hotcakes last year and a ramping up this year, and I credit bloggers for spreading the burlap love :)
Apparently my link above directs you to bloPspot.com. What the what? Here’s my stocking link, in case you might like to check them out: http://www.etsy.com/listing/111247458/custom-linen-and-burlap-christmas
Hot glue and prayer Anna, shhh don’t tell anyone :)
Wow, that hoop sign is so gorgeous! Beautiful mantel this year. :)
Thank you Kay, it was fun to make!
Absolutely gorgeous!!! I think we are thinking on the same wavelength! I want to do a classic christmas too with red and white. I love your “snow ball fight” analogy!
Love it!
It makes sense right? The Mr. just doesn’t understand ha ;)
What a wonderful idea!! I was trying to figure out how you made the round ball and you used a hoop. WOW!! I’ve got embroidery hoops stuck in plastic bins somewhere but they are small. I will definitely have to try this out. You are an inspiration.
Oh thank you Marisa, you are too sweet! I got the big hoop at JoAnnes 1/2 off I think it was only $8 – $10 or so :)
Really nice and snowy and soft-looking mantel. The turquoise is so pretty with the white. :-)
Thanks Petra, with all the blue in my house it can be tricky to add the red in, but a few touches are fun!
LOVE! I just picked up an embroidery hoop at a thrift store! Had it in my mind to create Christmas decor with it too! Love yours! Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks Amber, I love using hoops for decor so fun!
