New (to me) Living Room Furniture

This is a story about true love…

and sacrifice…

and the lucky schmuck who benefits from it – me! :)

You have all seen my mom’s gorgeous house (or maybe you haven’t, check it out here).  I love, love, love her living room furniture.

White Furniture

It’s super comfy, covered in indoor/outdoor fabric so it’s really washable, and I love the shape.

and now it’s MINE ALL MINE!!! (maniacal laugh, mahahaha)

You know who wasn’t so in love with them – my dad. My dad is 6 ft 3 and no matter how hard he tried to get comfortable, he looked like “fat guy in a little suit” (Chris Farley reference, my dad is actually quite a trim fellow) when he sat in these arm chairs. He could not sit for more than 20 minutes without going crazy.

My poor mom who loves this furniture, but loves my dad and his poor back more, finally gave up on her pretty living room and took my dad to the furniture store to pick out new chairs.

Not just any chairs, but like old school barcaloungers with the kick out recliner and remote control to contour the seat completely to your body. Let’s just say she wouldn’t even let me photograph them for you – she loves them that much. I have to say these things are like sitting on a cloud though, but I told the Mr. not to get any big ideas.

Basically he needs to survive 25 more years of marriage to me before he earns a recliner…

There have been several guys in the neighborhood who have stopped by just to stare at them in awe. Like picture noses up against the glass, drool down their chin. My parents have been married 38 years and obviously it’s this type of love and sacrifice that makes it work ;)

Buddy could not be happier to inherit these chairs as my mom’s dogs have already broken them in for him.  I don’t think he has moved out of this spot since they arrived.

BUddy

We lost a little bit of seating in here with the new furniture, but I love how open it feels now.  The traffic flow of the room is so much better without that bulky love seat between the living room and the sunroom. Don’t worry, I have found a new home for all our old furniture throughout our house and I’ll be showing the different rooms that have been spruced up as a result over the next few weeks!

I feel like I need to give a huge shout out and thank you to my poor selfless mother, who still visits her furniture from time to time. I caught her lovingly stroking her chair here the other day with a tear in her eye.

I also need to thank my Dad and his bad back ;)

I’m going to be sharing a full summer home tour next week on the blog, so stay tuned.

    1. HI Molly he is a Coton de Tulear. They are hyper allergenic, good with kids and max out at about 15-18 lbs.

  4. Ha ha!! You crack me up Kelly. I’m laughing because this very thing just happened with my parents! They got rid of their old furniture (gave it to my bother and his wife) and bought this huge hideous recliner for my dad because of his bad back! My mom hates it but is happy he is happy. They’ve been married for 41 years. This is what we have to look forward to! ;) On another note.. your home looks STUNNING as always and I am absolutely giddy waiting for the summer tour!! xo

  5. This room is so great! I love the coffee table! Can you please share where it is from? Thanks!

    1. I found it at a clearance sale at a local store about 6 years ago, sorry that’s so not helpful! They have a similar version at Pottery Barn.

  6. Wow! What a score on your part! Your chairs are perfect! They are stylish and certainly look comfy to me! Happy trails! Enjoy, Lucy!

  7. I wish your mom would give me the beautiful art over her fireplace. I have swooned over it ever since you first showed her house. Love everything in it, but especially that picture.

  8. The furniture looks great. So glad your mom didn’t have to totally give them up since you are allowing her visitation rights. Glad your dad can be comfortable too. I’m afraid I may be doing the same thing as my husband and his back have been dropping hints about a new recliner. I found a few that really don’t look like recliners but of course he’s thinking about those bulky overstuffed generic looking things, ugh. Looking forward to seeing all the changes in your home.

  9. Good Morning, Kelly! I LOVE your blog and all you share with us! Your home (and your Mom’s) is BEAUTIFUL! You have given me many great ideas for my own home! I’m repainting my kitchen and living room, and was hoping you’d share the color of blue that you used in your living room, as well as what color yellow your Mom used in her living room. Thank you, in advance, for this info!

I honestly get excited every time I see an email from “the lily pad cottage” and I can’t wait to see what you have to share with us that day! Thanks for blogging!!

    1. Hi Linda! My living room is Brittany Blue by Benjamin Moore. My mom’s was a custom color that her painter mixed so I can’t help you out there, he cut it with white several times to get just the right tone. Thanks for reading!

  10. Please, please, please tell me the manufacturer design and specific fabric of those chairs. Oh my gosh I want them! The pillow fabric source would be appreciated as well. I love the blue stripes and the blue trellis particularly. Truly I adore the WHOLE room and everything in it.

    1. I agree with Kristi and Melissa. Details on the chairs please.
The room looks wonderful. You are very lucky.

  11. Those are beautiful chairs and exactly what I’m looking for- can you tell me the model and where to buy them possibly? They are perfect and look amazing! Moms are the best!

  12. Beautiful chairs Kelly!! God bless your momma for giving in to the “man chair”!! Buddy looks quite at home in his new found love. Thx for sharing … have a great day!!

    1. Thanks Lisa, yes Buddy is totally loving the new chairs, it would be nice if he would let anyone else have a seat there :)

  13. Well, you are a lucky schmuck — I am pea green.. At least your mom can come over and sit in her chairs if Buddy will share. A barcalounger?? Something that belongs in a man cave?? I can’t really say anything , we have a similar situation. We inherited a recliner from our son , who inherited it from a fraternity brother who had it in his room at the fraternity and the brother graduated and my son used it in his apartment. After our son graduated he moved and my hubby got it. He doesn’t want to part with it .:-( Do you think I need to do a genealogy chart on it?? The darn think shows no wear and tear. And frugal hubby says he is just fine with it. I was thinking of having someone break in and steal it — do you think that would work?? I love your chairs!! Can’t wait to nose around the rest of your house. :-)

  14. I don’t blame you for being so happy they are lovely and suit your decor to a tea! Glad your dad is comfy now too! Mom…I feel your pain but hubby really needs it and you are a sport! Have a great day all!

  15. Boy are you a lucky girl .. Those chairs are gorgeous. Your dog is such a cutie also..
