Amaretto Bourbon Cocktail with Red Wine Float

This Amaretto Bourbon Cocktail with Red Wine float is a pretty unusual, yet delicious cocktail. It’s based on a drink I had at a local restaurant a few weeks ago, Roam in Grand Rapids for you locals. They called it Velvet Skies because it has a red wine float on top and the color is so pretty.

What is Amaretto?

Amaretto is an almond flavored liquor that is delicious on it’s own, or mixed in other drinks like this Amaretto Bourbon Cocktail. My favorite brand of Amaretto is Disaronno. Disaronna can be used in an amaretto sour as well.

All of my favorite flavors in one glass! I had to order it even though I wasn’t sure about the combo together. The bartender there is a genius because this is sooo delicious! It looks so cool when you first make it with the red wine melting down into the amber liquor. Unfortunately, my camera skills weren’t fast enough to capture it before it settled.

The Mr. has been working on recreating this one at home. I’ve been working very hard at the taste testing, and I think he finally hit it on the head. Side note – he likes to face toward the bar when we go out so he can watch the bartender and pick up some tips!

I love amaretto, but I never thought to combine it with bourbon, much less red wine. Somehow it all works together to make a slightly sweet old-fashioned type cocktail, with the unique twist of red wine.
