Neutral Lake Cottage Kitchen

Today it’s time to unveil my very favorite room in my parent’s new home. I think I have maybe said that about every room? They all feel like my babies after working so long on them! On the docket today is their neutral lake cottage kitchen. I have to tell you, if I could swap kitchens with her I would, I love how this space turned out so much!

We knew with all the white walls and trim in this home, we wanted to warm things up a bit in the kitchen with a taupe colored cabinet. All of these cabinets are in stock colors from Omega so I don’t have paint or stain info for you.

We really wanted this space to feel cottage-y and warm. We chose a walnut island to bring in a bit more depth and contrast.

The colors are fairly neutral in this lake cottage kitchen, but we added layers of texture to keep it feeling fresh.

The square tile on the sink wall feels very old school, especially paired with the classic window style.

The vertical planking on the other walls of the space add more texture. They also provide some delineation between the kitchen/dining/living room space. We wanted one big open concept room to take advantage of the lake views, but we also wanted the kitchen to feel like a separate intimate space.

The beams in here really help with that warm feeling. We decided to wrap the wood trim all the way around the room to ground the beams.

On to the counter tops! We chose this warm gray stone that has a green/blue undertone to it. It also has a pretty cream veining throughout. This counter top is Dekton which is a type of quartz material. It’s so durable you can use it outside as well.

Durability was important to my mom after dealing with honed black granite in her last home. It showed every finger print. She also had real wood floors that weren’t waterproof and hard to clean. We chose to use luxury vinyl plank in this home for that reason. She wanted easy upkeep this time around. This flooring can handle wet feet, grandkid spills, and puppy accidents.

My uncle built this custom hood based on some photos and horrible sketches by yours truly. He did a great job figuring out what we wanted and getting the proportions correct. We painted it white to stand out from the vertical planking, which was painted to match the cabinetry.

We also chose white for the vent since we chose white appliances. My dad took a little convincing on this one, but I told him to trust me that these weren’t the old white appliances he was picturing. This Cafe line from GE is so pretty! Stainless steel just felt too cold for this space, so we loved the white option with the copper accents.

Mixing metals in this kitchen was another way to add charm to a new build. The drawers and cabinets all have brass hardware, while we went with chrome plumbing fixtures.

My mom loves to watch the Today Show while she has her morning coffee, so we chose a small Frame TV for the space. We added hooks and these cute storage baskets as well. We may add some other art on this wall eventually too.

While my parent’s love a quick breakfast at the island, I wanted to give them another dining option. A round table was the perfect solution for this space.

Traffic can easily move around it and it has a cottage vibe. Ticking fabric dining chairs make this a comfortable spot for longer dinners.

I think that’s the grand tour?! I just love how this neutral lake cottage kitchen came together!
